The word great gets thrown around a lot these days. When’s the last time you saw the term “GOAT” on social media? In all seriousness, there are an exalted few who are truly deserving of the title. How does putting an entire genre on the map sound? We’re talking about the legendary producer, Dr. Dre.
One of the most influential forces in hip hop music, Dr. Dre was a pioneering artist of the gangsta rap genre, creating his self-styled G-funk sound. Dr. Dre was never much of a rapper, instead focusing on his beat and production. His sound, characterized by synthesizers and slow, heavy beats, became highly imitated throughout the 90s. Dr. Dre then produced albums and oversaw the careers of many big names like Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent and more recently, Kendrick Lamar.
