One of the most influential forces in hip hop music, Dr. Dre was a pioneering artist of the gangsta rap genre, creating his self-styled G-funk sound. Dr. Dre was never much of a rapper, instead focusing on his beat and production. His sound, characterized by synthesizers and slow, heavy beats, became highly imitated throughout the 90s. Dr. Dre then produced albums and oversaw the careers of many big names like Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent and more recently, Kendrick Lamar.
