3. Customize your drum pattern

If you’re not sure where to begin, we’ve got you. Each drum kit and pad you select in Drum Machine’s sound library comes with two pre-built drum patterns (saved under patterns A and B) that you can use directly in your song. To add your personal touch, you can experiment with various drum sounds and grid notes.

The grid features eight rows of drum sounds ready for sequencing. Customize each row by tapping on the corresponding drum icons on the left side of the screen, and selecting from a few available drum sounds. You can also tap individual notes on the grid to add or remove elements and modify the pattern further. Want to add or remove an entire string of notes? Just tap and hold on a row and drag left or right – handy for those hi-hats or snare rolls!

Have a more advanced understanding of music production? Feel free to step away from the pre-built patterns and craft your entire drum part from scratch. You can create up to eight custom patterns in Drum Machine, saved under the letters A to H. Want to create variations of a current pattern for different parts of your song? Easy. Just hit the three dot menu on the top right of the screen, select “Copy”, then paste the pattern on a different custom slot to make tweaks there.

Once you’re happy with the patterns you’ve created, adding them to your sequence is a breeze. Leave the pattern editor, then tap on any region and select the Drum Machine icon to switch the pattern. You can also tap on an empty space in your arrangement, tap the Drum Machine icon, and insert a new pattern of choice.
