Make Money From Your Music: The Brand New Tip Jar

At BandLab we’re always trying to find ways to empower creators, whether it’s about making music wherever you are, or collaborating virtually with another creator across the world. We built BandLab for music creators and fans; every day we connect more than 16 million music lovers of all types around the globe.

Right now, we know that many creators have had their sources of revenue stemmed or interrupted by the current crisis. We don’t know when this will all end, but we do know that we all need music.

Now, more than ever, we want to give you, as creators a simple and independent way of making money from your music – directly from your fans to you.

This is the new Tip Jar

As a creator Tip Jar gives you the ability to receive money from fans and supporters. As a fan it gives you the chance to support and show your appreciation to the creators whom you love.

This new feature gives you a standalone Tip Jar page. This means you are able to share your page directly to your fans, and they can tip you straight from there – in a single step. All they need is a BandLab account, which is free.

Activating Tip Jar is easy. Just head to your profile page, and click “Activate Tip Jar” and follow the guide.

We don’t take a single cent

We’re all about supporting our creators on BandLab so we do not take a cut of the money you make from your music. Stripe, however, charges the receiver of the money a flat rate fee and takes a % of the payment. The flat rate is around 30 cents (USD) and the percentage depends on the total tip amount, however an average % would be around 2.9%. There is more detail on this over at Stripe Support.

How do I get payments?

BandLab has integrated with the payments system Stripe, a 3rd party payment provider.

You don’t need a Stripe account to ‘tip’ someone, you just enter the amount and your credit card details, but if you want to receive payments you need to create a Stripe account.

If you ever find yourself in the midst of a dispute, Stripe has detailed information on what to do. Check out their help page here. You can also email them with a payment issue from their Stripe Support page.

Creators – It’s time to set up your Tip Jars! Your fans are waiting.
