FAQ

What is Tip Jar?

Tip Jar is the brand new payments system on BandLab. Tip Jar allows you to make money from your creative work. Fans and followers who want to show appreciation can use Tip Jar to send money to artists.

How do I get payments?

BandLab has integrated with the payments system Stripe. You don’t need a Stripe account to ‘tip’ someone, you just enter the amount and your credit card details, but if you want to receive payments you need to create a Stripe account.

Do I have to have Tip Jar?

Nope, Tip Jar is optional. Your profile will not have Tip Jar enabled unless you choose to add it.

What is Stripe?

Stripe is a 3rd party payment provider. Stripe can be used to make credit and debit card transactions online.

How do I handle a payment dispute?

Stripe has detailed information on what to do in the event of a dispute. Check out their help page here. You can also email them with a payment issue from their Stripe Support page.

Does BandLab take a cut of the money?

BandLab does not take a percentage (a cut) of any money you make via Tip Jar. Stripe however charges the receiver of the money a flat rate fee and takes a % of the payment. The flat rate is around 30 cents (USD) and the percentage depends on the total tip amount, however an average % would be around 2.9%. There is more detail on this over at Stripe Support.

Are there any costs associated with Tip Jar?

Tip Jar uses the company Stripe to handle transactions on BandLab. Stripe is free to set up and free to send money. If you are the receiver of money, Stripe will take a flat fee and a % cut. See Stripe Support for full details.
